MLS Legal Services: Committed to Pro Bono Work and Community Service
MLS Legal Services is dedicated to serving its community, and one of the ways it does this is by encouraging its lawyers to take on pro bono cases. Pro bono work involves providing legal services to individuals or organisations who cannot afford to pay for them.
At MLS Legal Services, pro bono work is not just a nice-to-have. It is a core part of the firm's commitment to social responsibility and giving back to the community. This commitment is reflected in the many pro bono cases that MLS Legal have taken on over the years.
One such case involved a single mother who was facing eviction from her home. She had fallen behind on rent due to unforeseen medical expenses and was at risk of becoming homeless. Michael Dhliwayo took on her case pro bono and was able to negotiate with the landlord on her behalf, securing an agreement that allowed her to stay in her home and pay off her rent arrears over time.
Another case involved a non-profit organization that was facing legal action from a former employee. The organisation could not afford to pay for legal representation and was at risk of having to shut down as a result. An Michael Dhliwayo stepped in to help, and was able to successfully defend the organisation, allowing it to continue its important work in the community.
These are just two examples of the many pro bono cases that MLS Legal have taken on over the years. We encourage lawyers to volunteer their time for community service projects, such as mentoring young people or providing legal advice at free clinics.
